2012 Guide Hachette -

Posted 2011-10-11

Domaine Grier Galamus is named after a breathtakingly deep gorge with its cliff side monastery and symbolises the force of nature and human spirit that exists in the village of St. Paul. Water and wind are profoundly important in this mountainous region and in combination with the hard working people, ensure ideal conditions for great wine.

The wine is a classic Côtes du Roussillon blend of Syrah / Grenache / Carignan and recently it has been carving out its own path. The 2009 vintage of Galamus is only the third vintage of this stunning product and earlier this year it received a gold medal at Concours Mondial du Vin in Brussels.

More recently it was awarded 3 Stars and a “Coup de Cœur” in the Guide Hachette. These top ratings identify Galamus as a noteworthy newcomer to the wine scene in the South of France.

Guide Hachette had the following to say about Galamus:

“This wine unanimously excited the jury who judged it as exceptional. Beyond the deep garnet colour typical in Côtes du Roussillon, it is the complexity on the nose, combining leather, truffle, underbrush and licorice that draws attention.
The palate does the rest: “superb”, “very beautiful”, “remarkable”. In brief, a little wonder, full of charm, harmony and balance with lots of presence and a beautiful structure supported by silky tannins, espoused by the roundness of Grenache and integrated wood. A unique wine, the work of the Grier Family better known in South Africa for their sparkling wine and who in 2006 arrived in Les Fenouillèdes for our great pleasure”.
